In the most severe cases, it is recommended that the carpet padding be replaced, and the carpet, carpet backing, and if needed, the sub-floor be treated with a urine neutralizer. Don’t make the mistake of thinking; “if I replace my carpets, the odor will disappear,” this is inaccurate if the sub-flooring has been penetrated. Before replacing your carpets & padding it is recommended to have your sub-flooring treated by a professional.
Pet odors that are left untreated can be very problematic. Not only do you face an unhealthy environment, but pet odors can also be absorbed into any porous material in your home. Draperies, sheet rock, upholstery, base-boards, and the concrete foundation are only a few of the common household materials that can absorb the smells of pet urine. Do not let your pet problems go untreated. Call a professional and have them properly removed and/or treated.

Steps you can do to prevent permanent staining: 1) Immediately blot the urine with a white terry cloth towel or plain white paper tower until there is no moisture transferred. 2) Clean spot with vinegar mixture (1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water) by gently messaging (not rubbing) it into the spot with the white cloth. 3) Once you have flushed out as much urine as possible with the vinegar solution, blot the area with a dry cloth until the carpet is dry to touch. **If you have a small extraction machine, flush the area with fresh water until the spot is removed. Do not use over the counter general spotters or extraction detergents, this will change the pH and could worsen your problem.
